THE HOTEL

High above the picturesque harbour of Lerici sits the charming Doria Park Hotel. From here, the panorama of blue sky and mountains with multicoloured villas spilling down toward the shimmering ocean is breathtaking. A colourful parade winds along the shore below as villagers wander among the quaint shops and trattorie of the seaside villages.

The Doria Park offers comfortable double and triple rooms with private bathrooms. Most rooms enjoy a superb view of the Bay and some have private terraces. The price includes a buffet breakfast, a wonderful spread with freshly baked breads local cheeses and cold meats, fresh fruits and eggs, which is served until midday. During the main season, guests may enjoy a modestly priced dinner, choosing from the menu of the day. The fritto misto is exquisitely light and fresh from the sea and the pastas are all hand made in the hotel kitchen. Dinner may be taken in the dining room or on the adjacent terrace with its lovely views over the harbour.

There is a paved footpath directly from the Hotel down to the main piazza where there are many restaurants and trattorie to explore. A seven course lunch of Ligurian cuisine served at the 'Oasi' is an experience to be savoured at around £11 per head including wine and coffee.

A stay at the Doria Park can be combined with a week in one of our mediaeval hill town cottages to make this an unforgettable experience.

Tailor-made walking tours of the Cinque Terre can also be arranged from here. Ask us to to arrange it for you.

THE COAST AND CINQUE TERRE

There is a small sandy beach at San Terenzo and a more secluded beach behind Lerici castle. It is well worth driving from Lerici to Fiascherino to catch glimpses through the pines, as did D.H.Lawrence, of the blue Mediterranean with its rugged, rocky bays below.
Park your car at Tellaro and continue on foot through quaint winding streets to where the houses literally tumble into the sea.

Boats may be taken across the Gulf of La Spezia to the Cinque Terre (Five lands) which is the name given to the five special towns, which are perched above the Ligurian Riviera. They can also be reach by train or on foot, as the towns are linked by trails that hug the mountainside offering stunning views of the rugged coast and the terraced vineyards.

Plan a lunch in Manerola, the second of the villages. The local restaurant serves a delicious fritto misto as well as some lovely risottos and pastas, which can be enjoyed from a covered terrace looking out at the Mediterranean and cooled by a soft breeze.
