HISTORY
This mid-18th-century farmhouse, originally an outbuilding of a prestigious main villa, was initially renowned for its cattle breeding, particularly for its bulls. The ground floor was used as stables and the first floor was the farmers' home. The latest renovation, completed in 2008, has retained the original architectural features. Now a country house hotel, it takes its name, "Le Calvie", from the locality.
Le Marche
« ... to be a marchigiani needs to be deserved » (Vincenzo Cardarelli)
The central Italian region of Marche reaches from the eastern slopes of the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea. Mostly hilly or mountainous except for a narrow coastal strip, the landscape with its vine-clad slopes, the golden undulating fields and its snow-capped mountains is of a striking beauty. If you are interested in off-the-beaten track touring, the Marche has a lot to offer. Unlike its neighbours, Umbria and Tuscany, it is relatively undiscovered. The whole area is a walker's paradise with many mountain paths in the Sibylline National Park which provide the most breathtaking scenery in central Italy. Moreover, the Marche has everything a true gastronomist could wish for, and to accompany your meal, it has a huge selection of wines.

Camerino

Camerino
«  ... you see it almost with wonder, emerging from the mountains, nestled on a hill, lofty, isolated. A stranger, advancing through the mist, would see it like an apparition… Its distant outline expresses a destiny of dominion. »
(Ugo Betti)

Famed for its famous university founded in 1336, Camerino is a delightful medieval hill town situated in a panoramic position about 670 meters above sea level.  This ancient settlement, framed by the majestic peaks of the Sibylline Mountains, boasts a glorious history.

An ancient pre-Roman settlement, the town reached the peak of its prosperity under the enlightened rule of the Da Varano family during the Renaissance period, when its court drew artists and scholars from across Italy.

The country house hotel “Le Calvie“ is approx. 3 km from Camerino which, besides many tourist attractions, offers all the facilities of a modern small town.

Sybilline Mountains
The Sibylline Mountains, dividing the Marche from Umbria, were celebrated in the 14th and 15th centuries throughout all Europe for magical fairytales and necromantic initiations. In the most famous of these tales, a mysterious Sibyl dwells in a grotto where she practices the art of divination. From all over Europe, common folk, errant knights, witches and wizards undertook the long journey hoping to receive an oracle from the clairvoyant prophetess. This magic atmosphere is still alive in the incredible beauty of these mountains. In spring, the thyme-scented wind, the wide expanses of crocus flowers, hyacinths, forget-me-nots and gentians speak for themselves as true jewels of nature. In summer, hikers can climb the mountains and on clear days see the Adriatic Sea. Brightly-coloured trees in the warm tones of autumn enchant you, while in winter the extraordinary show continues with the glistening snow-capped mountains.

A stroll through the streets of the ancient towns “is like leafing through a volume of the history of art and having the fortune of encountering the most characteristic and expressive pictures of the various periods of Italian Art”. (Jean-Paul Sartre)
